background | changing culture not climate
C LEVEL was established in 2000 to help people understand and engage with global climate change. We developed a new approach with responsibility for CO2 emissions at its core. C LEVEL developed the concept of being Carbon Balanced as well as the concept of a Carbon Footprint and found the right partners to deliver these ideas as services to clients.
Our first clients had to take new and pioneering concepts on board and we greatly value the early support and forward thinking of companies like Infinity Foods, EyeNetwork, Zelgrain, Midnight Communications, and The Bodyshop.
Also in 2000, C LEVEL established the first Low Carbon Living project. Recognising that up to half of our collective Carbon Footprint comes from buildings, we actively looked for a global eco home building approach that was ultra low carbon and low cost to run. This lead to working with Earthship Biotecture in the US to introduce the first full scale Earthship to Europe. C LEVEL secured funding for Earthship Brighton and managed its construction and communications. We founded the not for profit Low Carbon Network to deliver the project.
Our base of Carbon Balanced clients has grown. The Earthship project has proved a great success and inspiration. We are now expanding our Carbon Balancing activities and taking on new clients. We have also formed a new company with our US partners, Earthship Biotecture Europe, to help deliver the first residential Earthship Homes Developments. Also in development is our second Low Carbon Living project, Our Generation - a communications project aimed at inspiring people to cut back at energy use and generate their own energy in their own homes.
WHY CARBON BALANCE WITH CLEVEL?
CLEVEL is clear - with a simple mission to help people understand the carbon (c) level they are at, reduce it and compensate for it. In otherwords helping people to become carbon balanced
CLEVEL is original - we have been working since 2000 and where the first company to use the terms carbon footprint and carbon balancing to improve understanding of links between everyday activites and climate change.
CLEVEL is practical -we adopt a hands on approach with our work, visiting projects to see the results on the ground directly and also generating our own innovative projects that break new ground (for example with the international charity Practical Action), flagship green building projects and also schools programmes (for example with the UKs Institute of Development Studies)
CLEVEL is additional - we offer high quality from a carbon management point of view. Our compensation projects achieve very strong additionality, are monitored by global verification bodies (eg SGS and DNV) and achieve multiple benefits for local stakeholders.
CLEVEL talks the talk - we regularly present our work at national events and in the national media
CLEVEL walks the talk - our offices are run off wind and solar power and we are currently self building new offices which will maximise the use of recycled materials, water harvesting and rammed earth.
