CLEVEL was established in 2000 to help people understand and engage with global climate change. We aimed to develop a simple but innovative way to measure sustainability and make changes. CLEVEL developed the concept of being Carbon Balanced as well as the concept of a Carbon Footprint and found the right partners to deliver these ideas as services to clients.
In 2009, we continue to help our clients as they respond to new legislation like the UK's carbon reduction commitment and we are working with partner NGO's across the world to deliver multibenefit Carbon Balanced services. CLEVEL's Carbon Footprint consultancy is now helping larger organisations like Cancer Research to meet their new legal obligations. And we continue to provide this service to SME's starting out with their carbon work. Our clients that become fully Carbon Balanced have access to our Carbon Balanced mark, and carbon compensation through award winning social projects accredited by the independent foundation Det Norske Veritas (DNV).
With half of our collective carbon footprint coming from buildings, CLEVEL committed at an early stage to work on zero carbon build innovation. In 2000 we formed the Low Carbon Trust to deliver europe's first prototype full scale 'earthship'. Holistically conceived, and offering one of the world's most green build approaches, earthship biotecture has enabled us help develop exciting prototypes and more recently, fully functional ecohomes and work spaces.
WHY BRING IN CLEVEL ON CARBON CONSULTANCY OR BECOME CARBON BALANCED?
- clear - with a simple mission to help people understand the carbon (c) level they are at, reduce it and compensate for it. In other words helping people to become carbon balanced
- original - we have been working since 2000 and were the first company to use the terms carbon footprint and carbon balancing to improve understanding of links between everyday activities and climate change.
- practical -we adopt a hands on approach with our work, visiting projects to see the results on the ground directly and also generating our own innovative projects that break new ground (for example with the international charity Practical Action, zero carbon builds, and schools projects like 'ourgen' with the UKs Institute of Development Studies)
- additional - we offer high quality from a carbon management point of view. Our compensation projects achieve strong additionally, inspire change and achieve multiple benefits for local stakeholders.
- walk the talk - as well as speaking at national events and in national media we also walk the talk, for example, we now operate from our own new zero carbon offices
