Carbon Saving Cooking Stoves

Carbon reduction is achieved through the making, instalation and use of fuel efficient improved cook stoves that both reduce fuelwood use and indoor smoke pollution.  The projects are implemented by the global charities Practical Action and GERES.

Practical Action and CLEVEL established the UPESI Stoves Project to demonstrate and advocate the sustainable use of technology to reduce poverty and CO2 emissions. Practical Action was founded in 1966, by the radical economist EF Schumacher, to prove that his philosophy of ‘Small is Beautiful’ could bring real improvements to people’s lives.

GERES was founded in 1976 by French engineers and academics. It is a not-for-profit organisation with a remit to alleviate poverty using renewable energy.
